Reverb 10 Day 4: Wonder Dreamed 4883 days ago | | 492 words

How did you cultivate a sense of wonder in your life this year? (Author: Jeffrey Davis)

So far this entire year has been nothing but wonder. I got a promotion and a raise at work. My first non-contract IT job ever. I got married to the girl of my dreams who I love dearly. I started writing again, semi-professionally for a quick printing newsletter. I have a great family. I work with a great bunch of people. I made new friends. I have been the happiest I have ever been in this 12 months. I truly hope it continues through the Christmas season. Historically, a very depressing time for me for no real reason. I just tend to get very down around the Christmas holiday.

So far we are 6 days in to the month and I’ve been happy. There has been a lot of long, hard days at work but I have been upbeat through all of it. This has been a truly great year.

I owe a huge part of that to my wife who I have explored life with. It is so much more fun to go exploring and find new and exciting things to do when you have someone to do them with.

We snorkeled in the Carribean, weathered a hurricane, drove on the left side of the road and had world renowned milk shakes all while on our Honeymoon in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands.

We’ve seen a concert or two this year. The Weepies being the most recent one. We’ve explored outdoor fairs and made our second trip to the Metropolitain Cooking Show in downtown DC.

Most recently, and most uniquely we saw ICE! featuring The Grinch Who Stole Christmas all carved out of ice. It took a sculptor team from China over a month working 12 hour shifts. The ice was amazing. All the Whos down in Who-ville were perfectly represented and the big ice slide was a sight to behold, and a lot of fun to race down.

The giant Peeps tree and the artwork of Dr Seuss added to the experience. So did watching the people trying to ice skate and flailing everywhere.

I don’t need to try and cultivate a sense of wonder. Everyday of married life involves some sense of wonder. There is always something new and exciting to do and to experience with my new wife. There is always more fun to be had and events to experience, food to try, desserts to swoon over.

Everyday is a new day and filled with potential excitement and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
