What Virginia Tech Teaches Us Dreamed 6190 days ago | | 616 words
- The media is still a pack of bloodthirsty ticks. Shoving microphones and cameras in the face of any grieving student they can find. God help them if they ever tried that to me. There is a time to grieve and the media needs not be a part of that. Not initially.
- Violent video games has taken the initial blame. Not surprising. At all. Though some are coming to their senses. So does that mean I’m going to go out tomorrow and shoot something up? No, it’s not. Violent video games are not the story, not even a small part of it.
- The blame for this shooting falls on THE SHOOTER. No one else. Get that straight. It’s not the fault of violent media, the school, the police force, the world at large, guns, knives, anything else. The Shooter Is To Blame. Get that straight.
- There are too many guns in this country. England and Australia are sitting and laughing their asses off at us. Guns Are The Problem. Say what you will about the Constitution and the right to own them. But seeing as how we have no problem repealing Freedom Of Speech(!!!) for some people, if we don’t like what they say, owning guns should not be immune to such scrutiny.
- Of course the kid is a fucking “loner” and “weird kid” I mean shit! For once I want to hear the media report “well, he was a popular football team captain, dating the lead cheerleader, who was the first victim” but it’ll never happen.
- His violent writing. It’s. A. Non. Issue. It’s therapy. Hell if you saw most of what I wrote when I was younger, going through high school and college, you’d lock me up! Just because he wrote about violent things does not mean he is going to kill anyone. It’s a means of release, of therapy.
- Random fact: I was once placed on a list as the 3rd most likely to blow up/ shoot up my high school. My best friend was placed #1, and another acquaintance was #2. This was way back in 97 or 98, pre-columbine.
- Goth kids, keep your heads down and fly low for awhile. The media hunters are coming for you. Just wait. I wonder what will get banned this time. Trench coats got banned in my high school after Columbine.
- The saddest part of all this is nothing will change. It will happen again. This will teach us nothing. The gun lobby will divert blame from guns. The media and politicians will go after whatever the “official” scapegoat is for this tragedy. Look at how they went after Marilyn Manson post-columbine. Maybe they’ll hunt down playwrights this time since the shooter write plays. You know, plays are the work of evil men. ;-)
- His plays are nothing like the media is trumpeting them to be (I’ve just finished reading both of them). And it’s nothing but a lot of cursing, threats to kill, and one murder of a son to his father, in the least graphic way imaginable.
I now present to you, the murder scene, in its entirety.
Give me a break. I’ve heard 12-year-old kids threaten me with worse on Xbox Live.
- It has come to light the kid was troubled, needed counseling, obviously had some issues he needed to work through. This is not the work of violent media and culture. This is the story of a boy who needed help and never got it. Same story that played out in ’99. The same story that will continue to play out.
